TAAG Airlines is also known as TAAG Angola Airlines and it is Angola’s national flag carrier. This airline has been in existence since 1938 and the Angolan government owns 100% of it. It used to be known as DTA Diviso de dos Transportes Aereos, then DTA Linhas Areas de Angola and then the airlines name changed to TAAG, its current name, in 1974.
TAAG Airlines operates three flights a week between Cape Town and Lisbon, Portugal. Flight DT580 departs Cape Town at 17h50, arriving in Lisbon at 07h10 the following morning. The flight is operated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Fridays the airline operates a flight between Cape Town and Porto, Portugal. The flight departs Cape Town at 18h20, arriving in Porto at 07h15 the following morning. TAAG also operates three weekly flights between Cape Town and Luanda, Angola. The flight, operated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, departs Cape Town at 18h20, arriving in Luanda at 21h30.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays TAAG Airlines operates a return flight between OR Tambo International in Johannesburg and Luanda. The flight departs Johannesburg at 18h10, arriving in Luanda at 20h25. The airline operates one flight a week between Johannesburg and Porto. The flight departs Johannesburg at 16h00 on Fridays, arriving in Porto at 07h15 the following morning. The airline operates four flights a week between Lisbon and Johannesburg. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays flight DT578 departs Johannesburg at 18h00, arriving in Lisbon at 07h10 the following morning.
TAAG’s hub is at Quatro de Fevereiro Airport and its headquarters are in Luanda. Its original focus was on the domestic market but this has changed to include flights to countries within Africa as well as international destinations. TAAG Airlines flies to 29 destinations in Africa, 3 destinations in the Americas, 2 destinations in Asia, and 1 destination in Europe. Sixteen of the 29 African destinations are domestic. TAAG has 4 code-share agreements with other airlines: Air France, Brussels Airlines, British Airways, and Lufthansa. This allows them to offer their customers a bigger variety of flights.
TAAG Airlines operates a fleet of 15 aircraft. The airline also has a new Boeing 777-300ER on order. The airline’s fleet only consists of Boeing aircraft. Their fleet is dominated by Boeing 777-300ER and 737-700 aircraft.
Carry on baggage
Travellers are allowed one bag and one personal item. Your carryon luggage may not weigh more than 5kgs. All carryon baggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. Baggage in excess of the free allowance is subject to extra charge.
Economy class passengers are allowed 23kg of checked baggage. Business and first class passengers are allowed 32kg. All travellers are allowed two pieces of baggage.
Check-in desks close 30 minutes before departure. Desks for long haul flights close 40 minutes before the flight departs. You must check-in all bags, and all passengers travelling need to be present.
TAAG Airlines operate three tier cabin class flights out of South Africa. Travellers can book flights in first, business or economy class.
