Kamphaeng Phet
Kamphaeng Phet – Diamond Wall in Thai – is more than 700 years old and had had an important role in the 14th-century Sukhothai kingdom. Kamphaeng Phet is one of Thailand’s 75 provinces; it is located in the north of the country.
Kamphaeng Phet has a monsoon climate: three seasons – a cool dry season between November and February; a hot dry season from March to May; and a warm wet season between May and October.
Location
Kamphaeng Phet province is about 360 kilometers from Bangkok and is located on the Ping River’s Lower North bank.
Kamphaeng Phet attractions:
- Mueang Nakhon Chum - This is an ancient town where the Kamphaeng Phet relics had been discovered. Other ancient sites within the city walls are edifices such as Kamphaeng Pom Thung Sethi.
- Wat Phra Borom That - The Wat Phra Borom That, or Wat Mahathat, as it had been known, is a National Monument and dates from the early 13th century.
- Talat Kluai Khai - The banana market sells bananas – raw and ripe – and products such as sweet, fried bananas, fried tapiocas, baked honey bananas, and woven rattans.
- Phra Ruang Hot Spring - These 5 hot springs sprout from underground and the locals believe that the hot water – between 45 and 65 degree Celsius – cures certain illnesses.
- Khlong Lan National Park - This is where the 95 meter long Khlong Lan Fall is. Other attractions within the park include the Khlong Nam Lai Fall and the Kaeng Ko Roi rock formations. The park covers about 300 square kilometers.
Kamphaeng Phet activities and events:
- Nop Phra Len Pleng festival - This festival had been celebrated since the 12th century Sukhothai dynasty. Participants dress in ancient robes to cross the Ping. They bring homage to the Holy Relic that is on the river’s Nakhon Chum side.
- Kamphaeng Phet Mini Banana Festival - This festival celebrates and promotes architectural productivity. The mini banana or ‘Kluay Khai' had brought its city fame; therefore, villagers prepare dishes such as ' Khao Kraythip' and 'Khao Krayasat' during September and October.
