Formerly known as Olympic Airlines, the airline was privatised to form Olympic Air and commenced operations on 29 September 2009. The airline is headquartered in Athens, with its main hub situated at Athens International Airport. The new Olympic Air took over various properties of the former airline, including its name, corporate logo, landing rights and technical base. Olympic Air, however, did not employ any of its original staff, who all remained at Olympic Airlines. On 22 February 2010, Olympic Air and its main competitor Aegean Airlines announced their merger, phasing out the Aegean brand. A complete merger is scheduled for the end of 2010. Destinations Olympic Air operates services to 15 international and 20 domestic destinations in Africa and Europe. Olympic Air covers some of the most popular international routes, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, Rome, Istanbul, and Cairo. Codeshare Agreements Olympic Air signed codeshare agreements with Delta Airlines and Flybaboo, with further codeshares planned with Air France/KLM, Etihad Airways and Cyprus Airways in 2010. Travelair Club The Travelair Club is the frequent flyer programme of Olympic Air which was launched in November 2009. Members of the Travelair Club can earn miles on Olympic Air and Delta Air Lines flights, car rentals and hotels. |
