History

The Lufthansa history isn't one that lacks colour  it's brimming with it. Deutsche Aero Lloyd and Junkers Luftverkehr merged in 1926 to form Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft. The new airline's fleet comprised 162 different aircraft. Lufthansa acquired shares in Dereluft, which had been founded in 1921.

And then in 1934, Lufthansa was the first company to deliver mail across the South Atlantic. They increased their reach during the later 1930s to cities that included Bangkok and Santiago de Chile. But this comes to a halt at the end of World War II when Lufthansa went into receivership and then got liquidated.

Aktiengesellschaft für Luftverkehrsbedarf was formed in 1953 but they changed their name to Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft in 1954. They reinstated their services to the Americas and the Middle East in 1955.
