Emirates Airlines - Book Flight Tickets

Emirates Airlines (or simply Emirates) is the national airline of Dubai, and a leading airline in the world. Operating out of its primary hub at Dubai International Airport, Emirates flies to over 100 destinations in 61 countries spanning over 6 continents, excluding Antarctica. On average, the airline carries around 3,700 passengers per week.

Emirates boasts being the eighth largest airline in the world in terms of international passengers carried, and amongst the top ten in terms of revenue. Emirates is also the fifth largest in the world in terms of scheduled international passenger-kilometres flown and the largest airline in the Middle East.

In the past year, Emirates Airline and Emirates SkyCargo estimates to have carried 21.2 million passengers, as well as 1.3 million tonnes of cargo.

History:

Emirates was established almost 24 years ago on the 25 May 1985 by the Dubai government. Flights began from Dubai to Karachi and Mumbai, and soon to Delhi. Two aircraft - the Airbus A300 and Boeing 737-300 - were leased from Pakistan International Airport.

In July 1987, London Gatwick - the first European destination - was added, with operations to Singapore commencing in 1990. Emirates also gained a significant stake in SriLankan Airlines in January 2008, and in April of that year, it announced that it will pass management of the SriLankan Airlines to the Sri Lankan government.

Performance:

Emirates has, for a long time, been a leader in the aviation industry. Since its inception in 1985, the airline has recorded a profit every year (except the second), and growth has never fallen lower than 20% a year. In its first 11 years, the airline has doubled in size every 3 and a half years, and has increased in size every four years since then. This makes Emirates one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, with no signs of slowing down.

Emirates has also won numerous awards and accolades throughout its history, including being named the ninth best airline in the Airline of the Year awards in 2007 and keeping the same position in 2008 by Skytrax. Emirates was also named Airline of the Year by Skytrax in 2001 and 2002. Emirates has also been awarded best inflight entertainment by Skytrax for the past four years. In July 2008, Emirates gained another impressive reputation as the World's Most Hygienic Airline Award, presented by Taverner and Co.
