Domestic Airlines

FlightSite offers the opportunity to book domestic flights on a wide variety of airlines, which are continuously growing to keep up with the increasing demand from travellers.

South African Airways (SAA) is South Africa’s largest domestic airline, and the national flag carrier. Established in 1943, it is at present the only African airline to receive a 4-star rating. Airlink, a subsidiary of SAA, is the largest independent regional airline in southern Africa. The airline currently carries more than one million passenger annually by way of 35 000 flights.

British Airways is a highly popular airline in South Africa, providing possibly the best value for money, and ensuring a high level of on-board comfort. It operates locally as Comair Limited, which was formed in 1943 as Commercial Air Services. Comair is the parent company of and British Airways Domestic and Regional – two local brands. Kulula Airlines, launched in 2001, is a subsidiary of Comair. The word ‘kulula’ means ‘it’s easy’ in Zulu and Xhosa, and this personifies the laid-back, ‘no-frills’ branding of the company. They are also known for the fun and hysterical air service given by the energetic air hostesses.

Much like Kulula, Mango Airlines is a low-cost, affordable airline known for its competitive flight fares and great in-flight service. FlySafAir took to the air for the first time in mid-October 2014. The airline calls itself South Africa's first true low cost airline because it sells tickets at a lower airfare by selling checked luggage seperately. Skywise is the newest airline to enter the domestic market in South Africa. The airline currently only operates flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town, but they are looking at expanding into regional routes in the near future.
