British Airways International

British Airways, or BA, is one of the world's largest international airlines, carrying over 36 million passengers worldwide. It is also one of the oldest, most recognisable and reliable airlines, and has been regarded as a leader in safety, comfort, quality and affordability. The airline also boasts the largest fleet of aircraft of any other British airlines. Its main hubs are London Heathrow, the largest international airport in the world, and London Gatwick.

Being the largest scheduled airline in the UK, BA flies to over 550 destinations, including more than 130 countries worldwide. These destinations include major European centres like Paris and Frankfurt, and Asian hubs like Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok. All local flights are run and operated by Comair.

The British Airways Group was first established in September 1974. The BA was formed from two large London based airlines, the BOAC and BEA, and two smaller regional airlines, Cambrian Airways Cardiff and Northeast Airline Newcastle. All four companies officially dissolved, making way for the birth of what would become an industry leader in aviation in the coming years.

For a long time BA boasted a large Boeing fleet, and in November 1998, the company took a giant step by placing its first direct order for Airbus aircraft. More recently, in 2007, BA announced their biggest order since then by ordering 36 new long haul aircraft. These new aircraft are said to be delivered between 2010 and 2014 and will be used to increase capacity on routes to Bangkok, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Singapore, and Sydney via London Heathrow.

Presently, British Airways not longer provides directs flights overseas or internal flights from UK airports, with the exception of Heathrow and Gatwick. BA's UK passengers originating from airports not within London should connect via London or use another airline with direct services.

British Airways is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.

British Airways also boasts being one of the founding partners of the 'oneworld alliance'. Since BA joined this alliance, many airlines have followed suit, including American Airlines, Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Lanchile, and Qantas.
